Unitus and Microsoft ...
Filed in archive Microfinance on November 25, 2006
Did anyone else catch the microfinance program on PBS the other night? Small Fortunes? I thought it was a well done program, mainly since it wasn't just cheerleading microfinance, but giving thoughtful praise as well as criticism. Worth checking out if you haven't seen it.
I titled this post Unitus and Microsoft, both because Unitus is mentioned in the PBS documentary, but also because every week or so I see something sprout up about Unitus-Gates-Microsoft. So here's a rundown of some links to this convergence.
Microsoft volunteers teamed up with Unitus to help with Microsoft's Giving Campaign recently, and Unitus also won a top ten spot in Fast Company's Social Capitalist Awards. Unitus has also teamed up with Lifebank, an MFI in the Philippines, and Credex, an MFI in Mexico.
In a few other microfinance stories over the past few weeks ...
*Major banks join microfinance revolution, at the Globe and Mail.
*From Rediff, target-setting bad for microfinance.
*Caterpillar gets in on microfinance by helping fund Opportunity International's efforts.
