Slavery in India, of the most despicable kind
A natural resource is something naturally produced that can be exploited to sustain a populous. The greatest natural resource on Earth is human labor - and one of the few natural resources left in India, is sexual labor.

Boys born in India go off to join the work force, and the only path for women is marriage and child birth. This would be a great system if the farming industry wasn't in so much trouble, and every family gave birth to a boy.

Even though the practice has been illegal for more than 50 years, families still sell off their little girls to the highest bidder every night. In addition, there is an entire cult that worships Yellama, the goddess of fertility, who takes in girls for prostitution as young as they can get them.

Once a girl is put into this line of work, they are doomed to be forever single, and can never step out of it entirely. No man will take a priestess of Yellama as his bride, former or otherwise.

In a world where women's rights, education for women, and women in the work force is becoming so prominent, it is hard for me to believe a culture like this still exists. Or is it that there are simply not enough jobs? It's hard to tell.

There are other stories at Sky News and in the Modern Tribalist blog. Just so you know, the story published in the Modern Tribalist blog does not give credit to his source, BBC 10.
