Oui oui, Paris is going green
A free bicycle program in Paris has started off really well, as far as demand goes. With over a thousand a day opting to peddle instead of park, they could definitely make a big dent in their CO-2 footprint.

Basically it works like a bus system. Patrons pick up a bike at specific locations throughout the city, and then hitch it back up to another location when they're done. The first half hour is free, then the fees go up from there, and longer term rentals are available too.

The program has been so warmly welcomed by commuters that Paris will be doubling the number of available bikes and pick up / drop off spots by the end of the year.

Although, much like Tour de France, the new commuter bicycle program has it's hitches. Keeping bikes at certain locations has proven tricky, as some riders prefer to cruise down a hill and take the metro back. Additionally, cab drivers and pedestrians alike have a new kind of disdain for the amateur two-wheelers, but it's a step toward green.
