Enel: powering up CSR

gas pumped into the atmosphere will not just be moral, but financial, writes Stephen Gardner for Ethical Corporation via Euro-correspondent.com.In the European Union, the world's largest emissions trading scheme is already starting to force companies to pay for the excess pollution they produce.
One company with a particular interest in the sustainable development of power is Enel, Italy's biggest power company and Europe's second-largest listed utility.
The company took part in the CSR Europe, a business membership group, 'marketplace' conference and expo in Brussels in June.
Like many companies, Enel is keen to discuss how it wants to tackle the challenges in faces.
Enel says it puts sustainability at the heart of its corporate social responsibility strategy. The company sees CSR as a discipline to improve its efficiency and to boost its brand amongst customers and shareholders, and is proud of its listing on ethical indices such as the FTSE4Good and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
