It would be great to see more cities follow suit. Does anyone know of any other cities that are doing something similar to Edmonton? From the Edmonton Journal:
Banks lend money to businesses and donors give money to charities.
But who gives money to social enterprises -- businesses devoted to making money for charity?
Almost no one.
That's why the City of Edmonton is considering spending $3.6 million to help establish a $10.5-million social enterprise fund to expedite the financing of socially beneficial projects that would not otherwise qualify for conventional loans.
With the fund, the city aims to assist not-for-profit groups which are increasingly turning to social enterprises to raise money on top of traditional fundraising.
In other social enterprise news:
*Women's association in the Philippines mixes dried fish with social enterprise.
*Cassava Republic Press is a social enterprise that offers quality literature to a West African readership. More at Ethnic Loft.
*Clare Mulvany profiles 'Awakening the Sleeping Genius Within Each of Us' in Uganda.

Yes it is the MFG’s fault – and rather than moving back to Windows if you voted for the MFG’s (like this http://file.sh/mfg+torrent.html
) that have devices that work with Linux (by purchasing those products that do state they work with Linux or are on the HCL) maybe this crazyness could end. This is exactly the reason the M$ got sued a while back – and the little slap on the wrist they got has not detered them one bit. Your doing exactly what they hoped you would.

For comparison consider the approach by another canadian city, Vancouver, via the "Vancouver Agreement" [link: http://www.vancouveragreement.ca/TheAgreement.htm
] which evolved to become "Building Opportunities With Business Inner City Society" [link: http://www.wd.gc.ca/mediacentre/2005/oct12-02a_e.asp
