CSR: The real deal?

Not a lot of time to post anything in great depth today, so here are a number of recent stories in CSR news ...

*Are companies really finding it pays to have a social conscience? Are companies really going green? How serious are we? Sham or for real? I'd like to hear what you think about this, so please comment below. Terms such as CSR are so often thrown about that they risk becoming meaningless, and many already think it is just window dressing. What do you think?

*At Management Issues, companies must treat their workers well as a foundation for broader CSR work. More on how CSR starts at the home office at the New York Times and KSBI TV.

*GreenBiz has what the smart CEO needs to know about CSR.

*Export Development Canada has released its annual report on CSR.

*At CSR Wire, news that the Bank of China has launched that nations first SRI fund. Asia Business Media wonders if there is the start of a sense of CSR in the exhibitions industry in Asia.

*More on SRI over at Credo Advisors, where Peter Begley has posted a paper he's written on Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) and Calvert. Begley writes: During my research I looked at a number of other SRI funds and was surprised at how loose their rating classifications were. Calvert is definitely leading the pack though I managed to find a few areas for suggested improvements.

*Pakistan's banking industry urged to adopt social responsibility.

*On July 11th, Net Impact will see exactly just how we go about evaluating CSR in top companies at a conference. More here on how to get involved.

*The 95th International Labour Conference (ILC) will take place from 31 May to 16 June 2006 in the Palais des Nations, 8-14 avenue de la Paix, Geneva, Switzerland.

*A two-day conference this coming September in Brussels will look at CSR issues and how to get the full impact. More at Ethical Corporation.
