California Condors

Filed in archive Personal on May 23, 2006

Okay, so this is a bit off topic, but I thought I'd share these pictures anyway. Last week I was driving around on Highway 1 in Big Sur when I came around a bend and found six California Condors perched on the rocks along the side of the road. There was some roadkill below I think they were waiting for the cars to stop driving past so they could get it. A few weeks ago the Condors were seen feeding on a whale carcass around Point Sur.

More on California Condors, the largest bird in North America which was though extinct just a couple decades ago, here. They're doing well in Big Sur.

California Condors

This is probably the best shot. There's one later that's a bit closer, but more Blurry. It was actually a bit startling taking these shots since about three of four of these birds were swooping around over my head, maybe 30 feet up. They cast quite a monster shadow.

This is hard to see, but here are two condors flying past one another.

Here's the closer, but blurred shot.
