Absolute power corrupts absolutely
So the G-8 is coming up soon, and there's a bit of concern over the lack of pro-capitalism picketers. It's no wonder either, given the U.S. standing on the whole global warming issue.
Bush rejected that Kyoto accord, saying it would harm the US economy and unfairly excludes developing countries like China and India from their obligations. Pelosi strongly disagrees with that decision and many other of Bush's environmental policies. - source: article at Spiegel Online

Oh boo-hoo it will damage the economy - since when did Bush have a problem with that? At least Bush is maintaining the status quo on developing countries; crush, diminish, and weaken. Sorry, that's just what the motive seems to be in the policy Bush has put into law so far.

As far as China goes, for one they are switching over to renewable energy, and for another have one of the best energy conserving building plans in the world. I'm not sure about India - but I really don't see how Bush feels he can dictate what developing countries should and should not be limited to, given the fact the U.S. has the highest carbon dioxide emissions in the world.

A lot of prominent figures surrounding the G-8 are of the opinion an agreement will be impossible to reach. For the sake of the entire globe, I hope not.
